What Is A Dental Implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or accident. This procedure is categorized as a form of prosthetic (artificial replacement) dentistry, though it also falls into the category of cosmetic dentistry as well. When your natural teeth are missing from the mouth due to injury, accident or otherwise, artificial substitutes are created to replace the root portion of the teeth. Dental implants are connected to the gum tissues and underlying bone.
Replacement teeth are then fixed onto these new roots. Dental implants help people who were missing teeth to regain the ability to smile, speak, and eat more comfortably.
The dental implant itself is a small metal post made out of titanium. This post is surgically inserted into the jaw where your teeth are missing. After the implant has integrated with the post is placed, it usually takes the surrounding bone to heal about 2 - 4 months.
Isn't it time for you to feel more confidence about your smile?
It is really true that your teeth affect the way you feel about yourself.
Reasons For Implants
- Accidents
- Biting irregularities
- Congenital defects
- Dentures don't feel secure
- Difficulty with chewing
- Digestive problems and eating
- Gum disease (Periodontitis)

With dental implants, your teeth can look and feel just like your own! With the correct conditions, such as placement and diligent patient maintenance, your implants can last a lifetime. Long-term studies continue to show improving success rates for implants.
ZWC Periodontists are the dental experts who specialize in dental implants. They have years of education and training, a special knowledge of dental procedures, and they work closely with your own dentist to create a smile that you have always wanted. With proper care, your implants are very durable and can last for many years. They require the same "maintenance" as real teeth, including brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups.
Tooth Replacement
Replacing your teeth creates a team effort between you, your dentist and ZWC Perio. Depending on your condition and the type of implant chosen, our periodontists will create a treatment plan tailored to meet your needs.
- Replacing a Single Tooth If you are missing a single tooth, one implant and a crown can replace it. A dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root.
- Replacing Several Teeth If you are missing several teeth, implant-supported bridges can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.
- Replacing All of Your Teeth If you are missing all of your teeth, an implant-supported full bridge or full denture can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.
